In a meeting with Mr. Saghir Bukhari and Mr. Abid Niaz Khan from the ILO, Islamabad office, CHRJ explored the opportunities of collaboration between ILO and CHRJ for conducting research on labor standards and implementation of labor laws in Pakistan.
Ms. Amna Rashid (Director CHRJ), Mr. Umar Rashid (Faculty Advisor) and Mr. Muhammad Sakheer iqbal Awan (Advocacy Manager) attended the meeting on behalf of CHRJ.
Team CHRJ presented the idea of an active collaboration between CHRJ and ILO and explained the research conducted by CHRJ on Labor Rights throughout Lahore. It was mentioned that as part of the Labor Rights Awareness Project, CHRJ team has targeted a regulated labor sector in Pakistan, i.e. workers employed in the retail sector by registered, for-profit, companies in Lahore. It was shared with ILO that due to time and financial constraints the project was limited to only the retail sector of clothing brands in the Lahore region and various brands were selected and a team of volunteers were employed to collect data (UMT students), who interviewed and collected data from these brands all across Lahore.
ILO offered resources and contacts for the current project, and promised collaboration for variations of the current project, which would be carried out in the future.
