In a meeting with CHRJ, Mr. Tauseef Ullah, Legal Associate at UNHCR, said UNHCR is building on the initiative of establishment of stronger partnerships with academia. He stressed that it is crucial to strategize such partnerships between UNHCR and the academia, which would not only be long term but self-sustaining as well.
Ms. Amna Rashid (Director CHRJ), Mr. Umar Rashid (Faculty Advisor) and Mr. Muhammad Sakheer iqbal Awan (Advocacy Manager) attended the meeting on behalf of CHRJ.
Mr. Tauseef mentioned that UNHCR aims for long term and sustainable engagement for advocacy and dissemination of refugee law, in Pakistan and for this they have identified 10 well reputed and established universities for partnership including University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, through CHRJ.
Team CHRJ suggested that in order to achieve the goals UNHCR is aiming, an active correspondence and team work is required among the reputed universities / academia of the country where a platform should be developed which will enable the academia and UNHCR to work together for research purposes. The meeting is part of an ongoing series of collaborations.
