International Conference on Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion

Balochistan University of Information and Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) in collaboration with UNHCR Pakistan hosted a two days International Conference on Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion, December 19-20, 2017. The conference had a comprehensive agenda, including discussions on socioeconomic possibilities and consequences of migration and, the response of countries towards refugees and economic migrants in contemporary era.

Director CHRJ, Amna Rashid, presented her paper titled “Legal Lacunae and Status of Refugees: Case of Rohingya Refugees in Pakistan”. Faculty Advisor CHRJ, Umar Rashid presented his paper on “UNHCR in Pakistan: Analyzing the Global Governance Regime”. Both papers were well received, and followed by interactive Q & A sessions.

Additionally, on an invitation from UNHCR, Director CHRJ Amna Rashid was part of the “Consultative Session on Sustainability of Research Centers/Institutions and their role in Guiding Policy and Practice”. The session included notable policy makers, center directors, academics and UNHCR representatives; who reflected on bridging the gap between academia, policy makers and the UNHCR.

The conference was a unique opportunity for CHRJ, within a very short period of time, CHRJ was successful in projecting itself at an international forum. This was only possible due to the hard work and dedication towards research, of all its team members. CHRJ vows to have a positive impact, and to achieve similar successes in the future.
