Center for Human Rights and Justice (CHRJ) organized a “Vigil and Awareness Walk on Preventing Child Abuse” on Friday, 24th May 2019. The vigil was followed by an awareness walk focused on what individual citizens can do to prevent child abuse. The aims was to hope for a collective political awakening amongst the people to bring about a positive change in the society.
More than 100 students participated in the walk, holding placards with demands for protection of fundamental human rights. But, these students did not only demand justice or express outrage, rather they vowed to take practical steps to deal with this menace plaguing our society. They informed the audience about myths related to child abuse which needed to be shattered. Provided them with information on how to look for signs of abuse in children and what to do in case such a child had been abused. They explained how to protect children against abuse, especially through informing children about the dangers and how to protect themselves and seek help.
